SeaKits Releases V3.0 for Fleet Maintenance Support

Includes Streamlined Inspection Program for Fire Island Ferries

Hudson, MA – January 17, 2011 – SeaKits, the developer and provider of the award-winning Marine Maintenance SystemSM (MMS), has released Version 3.0 of MMS Fleet Solutions providing expanded functionality for workboat fleets, including passenger, tow and service vessels. MMS Fleet Solutions V3.0 provides Port Engineers, Maintenance Managers, and company executives with fleet-level visibility of all planned and corrective maintenance activities including maintenance schedules/forecasts, work orders, and inventory levels. MMS Fleet Solutions leverages Cloud Computing and is available as Software-as-a-Service, requiring no local IT infrastructure or support of any kind.

SeaKits recently signed a contract to provide turnkey implementation of MMS Fleet Solutions to Fire Island Ferries (FIFI) in Bay Shore, New York. FIFI is one of an expanding number of passenger vessel fleets implementing the Coast Guard’s Streamlined Inspection Program (SIP), a cooperative program between the Coast Guard and the passenger vessel industry that provides an alternative to traditional inspection regimes. Dave Anderson, General Manager, said, “We were an early adherent to the SIP and saw in SeaKits’ Fleet Solutions a way to automate much of the paperwork associated with SIP. The SIP inspection requirements will schedule and alert along with our other planned maintenance items ensuring continuous compliance, one of the key objectives of the SIP.”

Boston’s Best Cruises (BBC), an early adopter of MMS Fleet Solutions will be using the new fleet-level work management and inventory management features of V3.0. With a fleet of 20 vessels located in Boston and Ft. Lauderdale and personnel leveraged between locations, fleet level parts and work activities provides a distinct advantage in vessel reliability. BBC’s Maintenance Manager, Kenny Campbell, remarked, “Fleet Solutions is allowing me to efficiently assign and track work and inspections across the fleet knowing that the required parts, engineering documents, and detailed maintenance requirements are available for each task. This reduces the time the maintenance workers spend looking for tools, parts, and documents.”

Commenting on SeaKits turnkey implementation approach, Tim Mooney, President of Fire Island Ferries, said, “SeaKits took the time to get on our boats and understand our operation so they could provide a fixed price proposal for the full implementation of a computerized maintenance program, including converting our paper-based Streamlined Inspection Program into an automated system. Their risk reducing approach to implementation was very compelling.”

SeaKits Provides MMS Fleet Solutions for Boston’s Best Cruises

Boston's Best Cruises - Voyaer IIIHudson, MA – April 26, 2010 – SeaKits, the developer and provider of the award-winning Marine Maintenance System, has signed an agreement with Boston’s Best Cruises to provide the company’s two workboat fleets with their turnkey MMS Fleet Solutions. SeaKits and Boston’s Best Cruises met at the Passenger Vessel Association meeting in February and began discussions of implementing Fleet Solutions into their Boston and Ft. Lauderdale based fleets. The Boston fleet’s maintenance program will begin operations with MMS by the end of April.

Boston’s Best Cruises operates and maintains passenger vessels for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and the reliability and proper maintenance of the vessels is paramount to customer service and business operations. The Boston’s Best Cruises fleet includes two Boston Harbor Island high speed catamaran ferries that run between Quincy and Boston; two T Harbor Express vessels that are year round commuter boats; the Salem Ferry that has a seasonal schedule; and the New England Aquarium Whale Watch boat.

The second fleet is with a sister company, Ft. Lauderdale Water Taxis, which has seven water taxis in the fleet and also includes the Boston’s Best Cruises seasonal vessels during the winter months. Both Boston’s Best Cruises and Ft. Lauderdale Water Taxis are owned by Water Transportation Alternatives, Inc.

The SeaKits scope of work is to complete a turnkey fleet maintenance management program for all vessels as well as the parts depots at their respective terminals (Boston, Quincy, Salem, and Ft. Lauderdale). In order to ensure a smooth transition, SeaKits is completing a process review of the existing maintenance routines at Boston’s Best Cruises so that MMS can be integrated into their overall maintenance process. SeaKits will perform a walkdown of each vessel, create the equipment and spare parts lists, determine the maintenance requirements and schedules, assemble electronic manufacturers’ documentation, and populate the MMS database for each vessel. Boston’s Best Cruises had been considering different maintenance solutions and the SeaKits customization and comprehensive service is one of the things that attracted president Bill Walker to MMS. For example, SeaKits will build into each vessel’s profile the required USCG inspection schedules.

Walker says, “During the initial demonstration of the system we saw that it was a user-friendly program. The more we got into the system the more we understood how it could be customized for our fleets and maintenance crews. We are impressed with the user experience that SeaKits provides as well as the training which will maximize our understanding and use of the system.”

Operating workboat vessels out of four locations requires streamlined communication among maintenance crews and Walker anticipates that this is something the new Fleet Management System will improve. In addition to individual vessel profiles, there is also a fleet portal that provides an overview of current maintenance status and notes for all vessels in the fleet. Maintenance managers can log into the system and quickly see schedules for planned and corrective maintenance and the associated parts availability. Fleet Solutions’ unique approach to shared inventory will identify parts and equipment availability throughout the fleet and depots for quick response to planned maintenance or emergency repairs that are necessary to optimize fleet operations.

“Having our dockside maintenance facilities set-up with MMS profiles will help our team in identifying where parts are which is integral to keeping the fleets operational,” explains Walker.

SeaKits Delivers 100th Yacht With MMS Onboard

MMS Onboard - Marine Maintenance SystemHudson, MA – March 30, 2010 – SeaKits has delivered its award winning Marine Maintenance System (MMS) to the 100th yacht. Marytime, a new Nordhavn 60 owned by Victor Murray, was the 100th vessel to receive MMS installation which was completed in December. SeaKits also provided complete spare parts outfitting for Marytime which included stocking the boat with the essential service parts to support all planned maintenance as well as common repair parts; all parts are carried aboard in water resistant kits. MMS will provide Victor with a comprehensive and easy to use approach to managing all of the maintenance, spare parts, and technical documents aboard Marytime.

To commemorate this milestone, SeaKits has designed the “MMS Onboard” logo to mark those yachts benefiting from the leading maintenance program for serious cruising yachts. The “MMS Onboard” logo identifies a yacht that is maintained to the yacht builder’s and equipment manufacturer’s high standards and is sure to maintain its value far above yachts using ad-hoc or repair-driven maintenance programs. Yachts using MMS have crossed oceans and are providing their owners with safe and reliable cruising.

Leading yacht builders like Fleming, Kadey-Krogen, Outer Reef, Sea Spirit, and Selene Annapolis Yachts provide MMS as standard equipment on their new yachts. In addition, SeaKits spare parts kits and MMS discounts are available on yachts sold by Curtis Stokes and Associates.

Victor Murray describes his experience in outfitting with SeaKits, “MMS is a critical component to operating my yacht with confidence. No matter where I am on the water I always know what parts I have on board, when my equipment was last serviced, and when regular maintenance intervals are due. I appreciate being able to log all information and data in a central location and SeaKits training and support allows me to easily navigate MMS and use the system to enhance my boat ownership and cruising experience.”

SeaKits has been consistently growing since it entered the yacht and workboat markets and the company remains dedicated to improving its products and services so that customers receive the best that technology has to offer with the functionality that makes sense for their type of boating.

Barry Kallander, president and founder of SeaKits says, “Delivering MMS to our 100th yacht was a significant milestone for the company that we are quite proud of. We have great partners in the yachting industry and the product features we will introduce this year will benefit an even wider range of customers.”

SeaKits will be exhibiting at all of PassageMaker’s Trawler Fest shows throughout the year. MMS and all of SeaKits products and services can be seen at Trawler Fest and other major shows.

Sea Spirit YachtsHudson, MA – July 29, 2009 – SeaKits recently signed a Fleet Solutions agreement with Sea Spirit Yachts after the luxury yacht builder approached SeaKits for a comprehensive management solution for the yachts they produce. The new partnership will make the SeaKits Marine Maintenance Systemsm (MMS) standard on each of the yachts built by Sea Spirit which are designed by Sparkman & Stephens. Marine Maintenance System Demonstrations At Kadey-Krogen Yachts’ Open House

Bolton, MA – May 19, 2009 – Since February 2008, the Marine Maintenance SystemSM by SeaKits has been a standard feature on Kadey-Krogen trawler yachts. The Marine Maintenance System created by SeaKits is the first comprehensive spare parts and maintenance management solution specifically developed for passage making and offshore yachts and was introduced to owners and manufacturers of boats in the 40- to 100-foot range in the recreational industry in 2006.
