We will be participating in the new format of TrawlerFest University’s course ” EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DIESEL ENGINES Presented by Nigel Calder & Steve Zimmerman on September 24th as well as presenting “VESSEL MAINTENANCE IS MORE THAN OIL CHANGES” on September 25th.
This two-day course is led by PassageMaker Technical Editor Nigel Calder, who wrote bible of cruising propulsion, “Marine Diesel Engines.” Partnering with Calder is Steve Zimmerman, owner of boatyards in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, as well as representatives from WheelHouse Technologies, Yanmar, Cummins and Volvo who will bring their engines for hands-on training. Topics covered will include emergency repairs, repowering, maintenance, warranty and gensets. The information imparted is not only essential for successful cruising, but will also enable attendees to make money-saving decisions.
Craig Parkhurst of Wheelhouse Technologies discusses the various maintenance approaches—run-to-failure, preventative and predictive—and describes how to work smarter not harder to maintain your vessel. He will share his thinking on equipment failure modes and spare parts.
On December 9th, the main fluid analysis laboratory and the application support team are moving to a new, expanded headquarters in Indianapolis in early December. While our relocation may be minimal in distance, it is important for us to continue serving our valued customers without interruption.
- Shipping Labels – The Indianapolis address has been updated on the sampling labels currently being sent to customers. The “old” address labels can be used up to 90 days after our move date without interrupting the turnaround time. Samples will be received at the “old” Indianapolis address after that time, but there may be a slight delay before testing begins.

Zimmerman Marine Introduces Priority Service Program for Cruisers.
Zimmerman Marine Incorporated (ZMI), a yacht repair and custom boat building yard with four locations in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland, has introduced a new service program for cruisers. The ZMI program provides cruisers in the mid-Atlantic with priority access to a network of boat yards. All vessel work order records are stored in a shared database, so that boat history is easily accessed from any of the yards. In addition, ZMI has partnered with WheelHouse Technologies, so that all maintenance alerts and records from are accessible from each location through the Marine Maintenance System.
The program includes the following benefits:
Transient Priority Service: 24 hour service response if you are cruising and stop at one of our yards with a problem.
– Tech Support: direct cell phone contact for tech support to address underway problems.
– Annual Engine Room Inspection: mechanic will go through our inspection checklist once per year, within 12 months of qualifying
– Annual Oil Analysis: includes annual sampling of main engine oil.
– Annual Wheelhouse Marine Maintenance Subscription – annual subscription to their maintenance program with all ZMI yards included in updates and notifications regarding vessel maintenance.
Commercial Program Manager – Full/Part Time:
WheelHouse Technologies, Inc. is the developer of the first Cloud-Based Turnkey maintenance management software solution specifically developed for commercial vessels and recreational yachts. WheelHouse is available through our manufacturing partners and resellers as well as direct. We currently have full and part time positions available.
This position will be responsible for the development and integration of maintenance and Safety Management plans within the WheelHouse software architecture. As we provide a turnkey approach to our customers, the role requires a strong attention to detail; also as many employees work remotely, applicants must be self-motivated. Employees manage all aspects of their projects so proficiency at internal and external communication is essential.
Duties include but are not limited to compiling and auditing vessel specifications and system manuals; performing spare parts recommendations; developing maintenance and safety procedures; and compiling all data into WheelHouse. The role also requires the assembly and integration of customer provided specifications and procedures, vessel and warehouse inventory, and USCG and Class requirements. Some US and Intl. travel may be required.
All applicants must have a background in the maritime industry. Experience in the passenger vessel; tug & tow; research vessel; or Navy sectors is a plus. Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with either paper based or electronic planned maintenance programs. This is a contract position with possible conversion to full-time employment and work can be performed virtually.
