Moviemakers were hard at work the past 11 months crafting their Nordhavn films. In the end, there were 18 submissions to the Nordhavn Film Festival, which our panel of judges have narrowed down to 10. The movies competing for the title of Best Nordhavn Film are:

Newport Charter Show – June 17th – 20th

Celebrating more than 35 years in existence, the Newport Charter Yacht Show is a showcase of luxury charter yachts alongside a display of ancillary goods and services for the charter industry. This four-day event is dedicated exclusively to yacht charter professionals; agents, owners, brokers and captains in the dynamic, picturesque setting of Newport, Rhode Island. The Newport Charter Yacht Show is produced by Newport Shipyard, also the host to the Newport Brokerage Boat Show held concurrently with the Newport International Boat Show each September.

UNOLS RVOC Meeting – April 24-25

WheelHouse will be attending the 2019 University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) Research Vessel Operators Committee Meeting (RVOC), which is being hosted by Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

WheelHouse provides an easy-to-use interface to manage maintenance related activities on a single vessel or fleet.  This powerful vessel maintenance system enables the owner/operator; captain; crew; or engineer to maintain the material condition of their vessels using comprehensive Planned Maintenance that link documents, special tools, and required parts to the task.  WheelHouse is a Software as a Service (Saas) application on cloud technology with off-line syncing operation through WheelHouse Underway.  WheelHouse is utilized by a number of Universities in the UNOLS program to support the maintenance of their fleets.

(UNOLS) is an organization of 59 academic institutions and National Laboratories involved in oceanographic research and joined for the purpose of coordinating oceanographic ships’ schedules and research facilities. One of the primary functions of UNOLS is to ensure the efficient scheduling of scientific cruises aboard the 18 research vessels located at 14 operating institutions in the UNOLS organization.

A department of UC San Diego, Scripps Institution of Oceanography is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for ocean, earth and atmospheric science research, education, and public service in the world.Research at Scripps encompasses physical, chemical, biological, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans, Earth, and planets. Scripps undergraduate and graduate programs provide transformative educational and research opportunities in ocean, earth, and atmospheric sciences, as well as degrees in climate science and policy and marine biodiversity and conservation.

WheelHouse Names Vice President of Operations

As part of the continued growth of WheelHouse and his evolving role within the company, WheelHouse Technologies announces the promotion of Ian Morris to Vice President of Operations.

“Ian works tirelessly to exceed the expectations of our customers and is continuously tailoring our products and services to meet our customers requirements,” said WheelHouse president Craig Parkhurst.  “Ian started with WheelHouse over six years ago in a part time position and we are very pleased that his role has grown in tandem with the companies growth.”

WheelHouse will be exhibiting at the show and will be presenting a seminar as a break-out session during the two day engine class presented by Nigel Calder & Mike Beemer.

This is not the only diesel engine course for boaters, but it is the only diesel engine course for boaters taught by author/researcher Nigel Calder and veteran marine trades educator Mike Beemer. It is also worthy of note that unlike most other engine instructors Calder, PassageMaker magazine’s technical editor, is also a real-deal world cruiser, who bring this perspective to the curriculum. Beemer is department chair for the Marine Maintenance Technology school at Skagit Valley College in Anacortes.
